A Birthday Movie

Tomorrow is Corey’s birthday and he’s not one for making the day a big deal. Usually, we don’t do much by way of presents and this year was/is no different.  He simply wanted to go to a movie and share a chocolate cake with some of his favorite people.  Since his birthday is on a Sunday, we decided to go see the movie yesterday and tomorrow we’ll have chocolate cake with our friends the Vigues.

Both of us were actually pretty excited to see Quantum of Solace.  I know Corey liked it a lot and I really enjoyed it as well.  I love Daniel Craig’s portrayal of Bond.  In fact, he’s my favorite Bond, not only because of his portrayal, but also because of his hotness! He’s closely followed by Pierce Brosnan as I don’t really like the older movies as much as the six newest ones.  I think I like Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace so much because their storylines are connected, whereas all the previous Bond movies are just independent stories.

After the movie, we were both pretty hungry so we went to PF Chang’s.  PF Chang’s is one of Corey’s favorite restaurants, whereas it’s one of my least.  (I’m not one for Chinese food.)  I decided not to make a huge fuss since it was Corey’s birthday celebration.

I normally eat the lettuce wraps as my entree because I can’t find anything else I like there.  Yesterday, I decided to be courageous and I tried the Coconut Curry Vegetables.  The tofu and the veggies were really good, but the curry was a little too much for me.  Even though I didn’t enjoy the food as much as I would’ve liked, I still had a nice time because we were doing something Corey enjoyed and we were spending time together.

Anyway, I think Corey had a good night yesterday, and I know eating chocolate cake with the Vigues tomorrow will make his birthday the best.  Happy birthday, Honey!

Official Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer

The official trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came out today.  It looks awesome and I’m really excited! You can see it on the big screen with Twilight.  Woo hoo!

Under Construction

Over the next few days, my blog may change colors a lot.  I’m in the process of finding a new theme.  I decided that it’s time for a new one, even though I’m attached to the current one.  Who knows, after I go through enough new themes, I may decide to keep this one anyway.  Please bare with me as I do some experimenting.  Thanks!

A Tribute to John Williams

As most of you know, I’m a huge John Williams and Star Wars fan.  My niece Amber sent me a link to this video a few days ago.  I was quite surprised and happy to see the video version of a song I’d been singing to for over a year.  Thanks to my co-worker Alan, I’ve had “Star Wars” (that’s the name of the song; I know, very original) on my iPod for over a year.

I was actually going to post this video sooner, but I kept getting side-tracked. My friend Kimberly posted it on her blog and reminded me that I hadn’t done it yet.  Thanks, Kimberly!

Anyway, the guy in the video (Corey Vidal) is just lip synching and isn’t the actual composer of the song.  He did an awesome job at making it look like he sung all four parts to the song, didn’t he? The song was written by an a capella group called Moosebutter.  You can find “Star Wars” on Moosebutter’s album See Dee.  Moosebutter actually gave their blessing to Corey to do the video because of all the attention.  I’m not sure how long this information’s going to be available.  For now, you can read about it on their website.

PS–Moosebutter has a “Harry Potter” song that’s sung to the tune of “Pretty Woman” too.  I don’t think it’s as good, but it’s still a lot of fun.

Learning to be Grateful

As I was leaving work yesterday, I kept thinking about how much I want a new couch because my couch has a hole in the middle cushion and you can barely sit on it anymore.  Then, I started thinking about all these other things I want and I got kind of greedy and depressed.

After a few minutes of this greedy, selfish thinking, I realized that I have so much to be grateful for.  Even though my couch is broken, ugly, and worn out, I still have a couch and it matches my love seat.  That’s a lot more than some people have.  Even though I don’t have a car with a working air conditioner or the car I want, I have a car that runs and gets me where I need to go.  And, even though I’m don’t like my job very much right now, I still have a job, a job with good benefits and fairly good pay.

I’ve decided that even though I don’t have a lot of things I really want, I still have quite a bit and most of the things I need.  I can still strive to get better things and improve my life, but I need to focus on what I do have and learn to be happy in my current circumstance.

I think that’s why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  It’s too bad that Thanksgiving is sandwiched in between Halloween and Christmas.  It never gets the recognition it deserves.  Is that really surprising to me?  Honestly and sadly, no.  Of course, the world’s going to focus on the holidays that are all about “me” or getting things instead of the holiday that is about the other person.

I guess the whole point of this post is that I’m going to start focusing on the things I’m thankful for rather than the things I want, and not just around Thanksgiving either.
