Simpsons’ Tree House of Terror

It’s not really the Simpsons’ Tree House of Terror, but as I stated in the post Brain Slugs, my co-workers and I put up Simpsons-themed decorations for Halloween.  Each Halloween, the employees’ kids come trick-or-treating so management encourages each team to put up decorations.  Some teams go all out while others do not.  The team with the best decorations usually wins a prize and more often than not the Marketing team wins. Although, I think we actually have a chance at winning this year!

Update: We didn’t win. We didn’t even get an honorable mention. Marketing won … again … because they have half of a floor to work with and we only have a row of cubicles.  But, we’re starting to plan for next year and we’ve decided that we’re going to commandeer a few conference rooms and blow Marketing out of the water!

The decorations are the most important part this year, so Erin was really the only one who dressed up as a Simpsons character.  It’s amazing how much she looks like Ruth Powers!

Brain Slugs

One of Corey’s and my favorite TV shows is Futurama.  It’s created by Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons.  It was canceled in 2003, but has been in syndication on Cartoon Network since then.  Last year, Comedy Central picked up the show and contracted an additional 16 episodes in the form of four straight-to-DVD movies.  We were pretty stoked when we heard about this! We’ve seen both movies that have been released so far.

One of our favorite minor characters are brain slugs.  Brain slugs are little parasitic creatures that attach themselves to the heads of intelligent beings, such as humans, and control them.  Someone possessed by a brain slug speaks in a monotone voice and does everything to further the spreading of brain slugs throughout the universe.

You’re probably asking yourself why I’m posting about brain slugs?  Normally, I dress up for Halloween.  However, I didn’t think I’d be able to this year with packing, moving, trying to buy a townhome, etc. until I came across an amigurumi pattern for a brain slug from Futurama.

As you can see, I made two of them.  They both have barrettes sewn onto them so Corey and I have a costume to wear for Halloween.  Corey’s pretty excited about it! I’m excited too, especially since my co-workers and I are doing a Simpsons theme at work this year.  (I’ll post pictures tomorrow.)  I may not be dressing up as a Simpsons character, but at least I’m dressing up as a Matt Groening character.

As you can see from the picture of me on the left, I tried to take a picture of me looking “possessed” by the brain slug.  However, as my co-worker Erin told me last year when I was trying to look menacing as Mrs. White, I just look like I’m sad or about to cry.  Oh well, I’m just glad the slugs turned out to be as awesome as they are.

Exclusive Scene from the Twilight Movie

A new clip from the Twilight movie has been released! Corey says I don’t need to see the movie anymore because I’ve already seen it, just in pieces. I’m so excited! Only 23.5 days left!

Another Moving Update

Corey called our landlord on Saturday to find out if we could stay in our current place until November 1st, so we could move on a Saturday.  He actually shocked Corey by allowing us to stay another week.  This is awesome news because we found out we may not close until November 3rd.

The appraisal is being ordered, so it should take place Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday and then we’re having the inspection on Wednesday.  Once the appraisal’s done, then it will go to the underwriter and the loan should fund within 48 hours.  We’re pretty hopeful that we’ll close next week, but even if it’s the week after that, it’ll be just fine. At this point, we’re planning to move on Saturday, November 8th.

The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins

My friends James and Meagan showed me this video a few months ago and I forgot about it until yesterday evening.  I’m not sure why I remembered it then … oh wait, I was watching the second Charlie the Unicorn video and it reminded me about it.  Anyway, I thought it would be incredibly rude if I didn’t share this with everyone.  I mean, would you pass up the opportunity to see Leonard Nimoy singing about a fictional character in the 1960s?
