C’est La Vie!

March 31, 2008 10:20 am

Happy belated birthday, Tigger! :D

Life has been interesting for the past few months. I’ve been struggling with a lot of things. A lot of times, I’ve been on the verge of tears and I’m not always sure why. Sometimes, I can figure out what’s going on and other times, it’s like my emotions have run a muck. However, I’ve noticed if I stay busy whether it’s working, cleaning, reading, or watching TV, I do a little better.

I don’t want this post to be depressing, so I’ve decided to list a few things I started to do over the past couple of weeks that have helped me just in case you’re in the same boat I’m in.

  • I’ve read my scriptures every night, even when I’m tired.
  • I’ve said my prayers each night. (This has been a huge struggle since getting married because my personal prayers are so similar to our family prayers.)
  • I’ve gone to church each week for the past couple of weeks. (This has been a struggle since January.)
  • I’ve spent time with Corey as much as I can.
  • I’ve talked to friends or family when I need someone to talk to.
  • I’ve spent time with friends.
  • I’ve read various talks by the General Authorities.
  • I watched an old fireside with President Hinckley as the speaker.
  • I try not to dwell on my problems or issues. (This has always been a struggle for me.)

I’m really excited for General Conference this weekend. I love listening to the talks by the General Authorities. I always feel so edified and at peace during Conference weekend.

On my Facebook profile, I have an application that gives me a quote by President Hinckley every couple of days. For the past few days, the following quote has been displaying:

“It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers.”

It’s amazing that when we need help the most, there’s always something (scripture, quotes, friends, etc.) around to help us through our rough times just like in the Footprints poem. I guess we just need to focus on those positive times and remember when life gets tough, the light will always come.

New Blog Home

You may have noticed that when you entered jenniferblaser.com in the Address bar, the site redirected you to http://www.jennielyse.com. If you didn’t notice, it did do that. ;) I guess there’s not much more to say than my blog has a new home. But, as you can see, nothing has really changed.

Train the Trainer

March 20, 2008 2:56 pm

Happy belated birthday, Steve! :D Happy birthday, Robert! :D

I survived my work’s conference! It was a lot of fun and tiring at the same time. The conference started on Sunday and ended yesterday. We worked every day from 7:00 am until 11:00 pm, so you can imagine how tired we all are.

I enjoyed the interaction with the trainers, or most of them anyway. ;) I forgot to take pictures while I was there because there was just too much going on. I got to see three of my dearest friends. Jen used to work with me and we were in the same ward until they moved. When I hugged her good-bye, we almost ended up in tears as we hadn’t seen each other for almost four years and knew it would be a while until we see each other again. I get to see Alice and Jamie a little more often because they come to Utah for seminars every now and then. However, I still enjoy every minute I get to spend with them. :D

My co-workers and I are extremely tired, especially Jeff. There were a lot of computer hardware and software problems and Jeff’s our resident expert. He was running around non-stop each day. Poor Jeff! :( I taught a couple of courses as did Erin, Becky, and Guy.

The highlight of the event was the banquet where we handed out awards to the trainers. After the awards ceremony, we usually have some form of entertainment and this year, we had Comedy Sports perform at our banquet. Comedy Sports is an improv group and they were a lot of fun to watch. :D

Eat a Tasty Animal for Peta Day

March 16, 2008 10:53 am

Happy birthday, Owen! :D

I’m all for animal rights, such as treating animals with respect, not abusing animals, or working them to death. However, I’m not for putting animal rights above human rights. Peta, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is an extremist group that goes way too far with their views and actions. One of their views is they don’t think animals should be consumed as food and will do anything to push that agenda on others.

Now, I don’t care if people want to be vegetarians. That’s their choice. Frankly, I don’t eat a lot of meat myself because I don’t like the taste. I just don’t believe that someone, or a group of people, should infringe on others’ rights to push their own views/agenda.

Hot DogsYesterday was Peta Day and Corey and I decided to join a Facebook group event to protest the day in our own little way. ;) (It was mostly for fun and a joke.) The event was called, “Eat a Tasty Animal for Peta Day.”

Corey just wanted to go to A&W and order a couple of burgers. But, we decided to invite our good friends James and Meagan over to celebrate. We went to a place called Tommy Burgers. Tommy Burgers is a little hole-in-the-wall place with awesome burgers, hot dogs, and tamales! The food we ate was so yummy and made me glad that I like to eat some meat! ;)

10 Years

March 15, 2008 5:24 pm

Yesterday, Corey and I celebrated our 10th anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years already. We weren’t sure what to do because of other obligations, so we didn’t have any big plans. In the end, we decided to go to lunch and a movie together.

For lunch, we went to IHOP. Even though the service usually sucks horribly there, Corey and I love their breakfasts. We hadn’t been for a while and we wanted to go to a sit-down restaurant. As usual, the service sucked, but the food was good!

Fool’s Gold

After lunch, we saw Fool’s Gold with Matthew McConaughey, or McConohotty as I like to call him, and Kate Hudson. I was excited that Corey wanted to see it since I loved them in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. We enjoyed it a lot.  It was extremely funny!  I just wish they had kept out the scene where a girl flashes Matthew.

Tin Man

While we were at the mall, Corey bought Tin Man, the Sci-Fi miniseries adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. Corey wanted to see it when it was on Sci-Fi, but we don’t get Sci-Fi. It was worth the wait. We both really enjoyed it. It’s really weird and a very interesting adaptation, but I thought it was really cool. Because it’s five hours long, the development of the characters and the story are really well done. Even though I didn’t like one of the actresses, it didn’t taint my overall view of the show.

All in all, we had a good day together. :D

Stephenie Meyer News

March 14, 2008 11:52 am

Happy belated birthday, Kati! :D

There’s some exciting news in the Stephenie Meyer universe. More casting for the Twilight movie has occurred. Here are the latest additions:

The most exciting news of all, however, is that Stephenie Meyer’s coming to Utah for a couple of signings when The Host is released. :D I’m so excited! I just bought my ticket to one of the events and can’t wait to go. :D She’ll sign The Host and two other books. So now, I just need to decide which Twilight book to exclude from this signing adventure. Although, I could always have her sign the third one at the other signing. ;)

Just Call Me Hellraiser

March 9, 2008 7:56 pm

Happy birthday, Jared! :D

I’ve never seen the movie Hellraiser, but I’ve seen pictures of the main bad guy. Are you wondering, “What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?” Well, my niece Carlee does my hair. Not only do I get a family discount, but because my hair’s so short, I can get my hair cut and colored for $20, which includes the tip. It’s been nice! :D

Yesterday, I needed to get my hair cut. I had her cut it in my normal style–the style since last July anyway. I also wanted to go blond. Since I colored my hair red with blond highlights last time and dark brown the time before that, she had to lift the color as well as bleach my hair. Her salon didn’t have an on-the-scalp bleach, so she used a hair cap. Here’s where Hellraiser comes in.

Hellraiser Bad Guy Me with Hair Cap (2008)

I’m not sure how I feel about the end result yet, but I guess it takes a few days to get used to a new style or color. I’ve liked all the other colors I’ve tried. I guess I just think this one looks a little too multi-colored. :? I’ll just have Carlee recolor it in four to six weeks if I don’t get used to it. ;)
