Reading Update
I finished reading the Pearl of Great Price last night. The last time I read it was my sophomore year in high school, which was about 13 years ago. I know we talk about the scriptures in the Pearl of Great Price quite a bit at church, but I had forgotten how much I didn’t remember was in there because I usually focus on the Book of Mormon. I really enjoyed reading the history about Joseph Smith in his own writing. I’ll have to add reading his full history to my book list.
I haven’t finished reading the Seventh Son yet. I know; it’s taking me forever. I keep getting sidetracked by new episodes of my shows, getting my hair cut yesterday, updating my shelves on Shelfari, etc. I really need to finish reading it because I’m very curious as to what happens. I’ve really enjoyed reading the book and I’ve learned some more words.
- Foundry: an establishment for producing castings in molten metal.
- Huguenot: a member of the Protestant Reformed Church of France, historically known as the French Calvinists in the 16th to 18th century.
- Jenny: the female of certain animals, especially a female donkey or a female bird. (No wonder Jennie-O Turkey is named what is it.)
- Likker: another term for liquor in the Eye dialect.
- Lithe: bending readily; pliant; limber; supple; flexible.
- Lord Protector: a particular British title for heads of state, with two meanings at different periods of history. (In the Tales of Alvin Maker series, the books take place in an alternate 18th- and 19th-century America. At that time, the Stuarts ruled the “Crown Colonies” as Lord Protectors.)
- Tallow: the harder fat of sheep, cattle, etc., separated by melting from the fibrous and membranous matter naturally mixed with it, and used to make candles, soap, etc.
